Plastering & Skimming questions
How long does fresh plaster take to dry?
Typically 3–7 days for a skim coat, depending on heating and ventilation. It's ready when it turns an even light pink with no dark patches. Use a mist coat (watered-down emulsion) first.
Can you skim over Artex?
Yes. In most cases Artex can be sealed and skimmed directly, which is quicker and cleaner than removing it. If there's any concern about the age of the Artex we'll talk it through before starting.
How long does it take to skim a room?
An average bedroom (walls and ceiling) is usually one to two days. A single ceiling can often be done in a day.
